Citizenship is a subject which fundamentally addresses the 5 foci of the ‘Every Child Matters’ agenda -
Be Healthy, Stay Safe, Enjoy and Achieve, Make a positive contribution and Achieve Economic Well-being. Through a range of inspiring and motivating activities at Key Stage Three and Four, students will actively participate and engage in projects that enable them to support the school and the wider community – including opportunities Nationally and Internationally.
This also means that as Citizenship is an interactive subject, students will regularly have contact with representatives from a cross section of the community
.
In addition to meeting the subject’s statutory requirements, students will also acquire a significant proportion of their Personal, Social, Health and Careers Education.
Key Stage Three
At Key Stage Three students will develop their skills of enquiry by studying a range of topics including:
Human Rights
Identity
Changing Communities
Fairtrade
Relationships
The Impact of Drugs and Alcohol
Road Safety
Crime and Punishment
The Government
Key Stage Four
At Key Stage Four all students will complete the Short Course GCSE in Citizenship. In Year 10 they will study units of work that cover:
Theme 1: Human Rights
Theme 2: Power, Politics and the Media
Theme 3: The Global village
In Year 11 students will complete a coursework assignment that focuses on participating in society. The students are responsible for managing and actively engaging in a Community based activity.

Citizenship Project: 40% of total marks (Internal Assessment Portfolio)
Written paper: 60% of total marks
