Ethos and Philosophy:

 

We in the History Department at Portchester Community School want students to take a good look around them at the world in which we live and to help them find a place in that world. In order to do this, they will need to understand what has happened before them to help make sense of what is going on around them today. To this end, students study a variety of people, events and time periods, making links to current issues when and where possible. Students will learn key skills that they will use in other subjects, but also in their future lives and careers such as making judgements, analysis, interpretation, evaluation.

 

At Key Stage 3 students will study :

 

*       The Medieval period

*       Tudors and Stuarts

*       Industrial Revolution

*       Slavery and the British Empire

*       World War 1 and 2

 

Key Stage 4 Foundation GCSE course :

 

*       Crime and Punishment Through Time

*       Civil Rights in USA

*       Terrorism Through Time

 

Key Stage 4 GCSE OCR Modern World B course:

 

*       Post World War 1 Peace Treaties

*       League of Nations

*       Collapse of International Peace

*       Germany 1918-1945 (Depth Study)

*       America 1918-1941

*       Britain 1906-1919 (Depth Study
