Key Stage 4

Portchester Community School has adopted a condensed Key Stage 3. We believe that this gives students the best opportunity to succeed where it really matters, at the end of their school careers in their GCSE and other qualifications taken at the end of Key Stage 4.

In Year 9 all students are required to study the following subjects:

English, Mathematics, Science, Citizenship, ICT, Core PE, Core RE, Technology (students will choose 3 from the 5 modules offered) and Performing Arts (students will choose at least 1 of the 4 courses offered.)

Subject areas have planned a variety of different pathways and courses for students to consider, catering for different abilities and interests. Although many students will continue with their chosen subjects into Years 10 and 11, it will also be possible for them to start new courses at the beginning of Year 10.

In Year 10 and 11 the core curriculum consists English, Mathematics, Science, ICT, Core PE and Citizenship. A huge variety of options is on offer including Dance, Drama, French, Spanish, Textiles, Product Design, Resistant Materials, Art, Art and Design, Graphics, Music, History, Geography, Religious Studies and Physical Education.  Students are given ample guidance in making the appropriate choices and parents / carers are involved at every stage of the process.

PCS also has an excellent record with its Work Related Learning College courses with a 100% completion and pass rate over the last two years. Students are recommended for courses at Fareham Collegeat both Level 1 (equivalent to 1 or 2 Cs at GCSE) in Hairdressing, Construction and Motor Vehicle Maintenance among a number of options, and Level 2 (equivalent to up to 4 GCSEs at A* to C) in subjects as diverse as PE and Photography.
