Media Studies

Minnie and friendsMedia Studies is a really popular and thriving subject and we have also added Film Studies GCSE to the Year 9 option choices.

The study of Media allows students to use their own experiences of the world in their understanding of the theory and practical application of media skills. Students are able to design and create authentic media texts, sometimes even in a realistic media environment such as The News Centre.

Units of work have included:

  • The Magic of Disney
  • The Representation of Women in Science Fiction
  • Television Advertising
  • Quiz Shows

Students complete 3 short coursework projects in Year 10 and then a large Practical Production and a Controlled Test in Year 11.

3x coursework = 25%

1x Practical Production = 25%

1x Controlled Test = 50%

Extra Curricular opportunities have included:

  • Trip to Disneyland, Paris
  • Film workshops with Media4Schools
  • Cadbury’s World
