In the Modern Languages Department French, German and Spanish are taught in KS3 and KS4. In
lessons students are encouraged to take an interest in the different cultures and to learn strategies to help them with language learning. Students are expected to work independently and to develop skills in listening, reading, speaking and writing.
In KS3 in Year 7 students learn the language of the classroom and how to talk about themselves, their family and their interests. In Year 8 they learn to talk about where they live and their daily routine and about healthy living.
In KS4 students prepare for a variety of assessments. In Year 9 we offer the FCSE course which is a stepping stone to GCSE, and also gives a form of accreditation. In Years 10 and 11 we offer GCSE in all 3 subjects and GCSE Applied French. In addition students have the opportunity to study a second modern language at the start of Year 9.
