The Physical Education Department

The Physical Education department is committed to providing a high quality experience of sport and physical activity for all students.   Lessons aim to be engaging and enjoyable in order to enable all students to develop physical, mental and social skills that will equip them not only to improve their sporting performance but also to help them be valued citizens within their society.

DiscusA broad range of activities are taught during Key Stage 3 as students experience and improve their performance in both team and individual events.   From rugby to gymnastics students are expected at all times to strive for excellence and develop their own personal performance.

Throughout Key Stage 4 students choose and follow pathways aimed at personalising their learning, allowing them to focus on their preferred areas of interest.   At this stage in core Physical Education students can also opt into developing their leadership skills through completing the Level 1 Sports Leaders Award, a nationally recognised and certificated course.

The Physical Education department offers an extensive range of extra curricular opportunities during both lunch times and after school.   A time table of activities can be viewed via the link below.   Well attended, these clubs allow students to further participate in an activity they enjoy and to enhance their level of performance.   Competing in numerous local, regional and national school sport competitions enables all students to participate and be challenged.

The GCSE Physical Education course is an exceptionally popular option studied by students at the Line Outschool.   Following the Edexcel syllabus the course structure consists of both practical and theoretical components.   Ideal for students who aim to work in the leisure industry or a job requiring high standards of physical fitness this course is assessed via practical examinations and a written paper.
