THE RIGHTS, RESPECT & RESPONSIBILITY GROUP
Portchester School is very proud of its work in the area of promoting the three Rs. We are only the second secondary school in the UK to be awarded "Rights Respecting School" status by UNICEF.
The Rights, Respect and Responsibility Group meet at least ten times throughout the academic year. It is chaired by Mr Roberts, the Deputy Headteacher and comprises of 20 democratically elected students (4 from each year group).
The Group meets after school on Thursdays for about an hour and a half to discuss such issues as:
How to involve more students in the issue of human rights education
How to build stronger links with our partnership schools both here and abroad
How to achieve level 2 of the Right Respecting School Award
How to judge the level of progress made by the school in realising its work on Rights, Respect and Responsibility
Although students can only attend if they are elected, some are invited to the meetings and give presentations. For example, Year 7 Geography students gave presentations on how to make Portchester Community School a more sustainable school. Staff are always welcome.
