PORTCHESTER students have swept the board at an area athletics tournament – the first time the school has competed in this event.
A total of 15 physically disabled students joined more than 180 competitors and many of our pupils cam home clutching gold medals.
The Athletics Championship was held at the Mountabatten Centre and events ranged from obstacle races to throwing the javelin.
All students took part in at least three events during the day competing for 1st and 2nd places in order to win gold and silver medals.
Portchester won the overall event while Reece Kilpatrick, Year 7, came home with three gold medals for his excellent performances in javelin, throwing the tennis ball and the 30m unsupported walk.
Another notable performance was made by Jack Stretton, Year 9, who thrashed his opponents in the 30m wheelchair race.
Natalie Hibberd, Year 7, was just caught at the finish line by her opponent to come a very close second place a very exciting race. All the students and teachers had a wonderful day and even had enough energy left to sing ‘We are the champions’ on the way home. Well done to them all.
