Councillor Roger Price from Portchester, Mr Roberts, Ryan Perry and Ryan Lee visited the Leader of Hampshire County Council Ken Thornber on Friday 2nd July 2010. The boys presented the petition and used photographs of Wicor Rec and approach road to make their case for better facilities for the local Community.
He met the group in his personal office and squeezed them into his busy schedule between meeting the Fareham M.P. Mark Hoban in the morning and talking to the television cameras in the afternoon. He listened carefully to the proposals put forward by the two Ryans’ and made notes.
The following points were agreed:
Councillor Thornber
He said he would arrange for the hedge to be cut back on the road going down to Wicor Rec.
He said he liked the three phase approach that the R, R and R Group had put forward and wanted to support it depending on how much it would cost. He asked the boys for their priorities and they said that first was the pavement, second the lighting and third the bicycle racks. He also asked Mr Roberts, Deputy Head to email to him any further information about the approach road.
This was a very pleasant and respectful meeting in which listening local and County politicians showed genuine regard for the democratic rights of responsible young people in Hampshire.
