Childrens' Commissioner For England Vists PCS
Following the School’s elevation to Level 2 status as a Rights Respecting Secondary School, the Deputy Director of UNICEF UK and The Childrens' Commissioner visited us in May 2010.
Very positive comments about the ethos of the school were made by our distinguished guests. Anita Tiessen from UNICEF said:
“The visit gave us a clear understanding of the positive impact of the RRSA and each of the groups of students and staff we met had a real commitment to and passion for being a Rights Respecting School”

She added in a letter to Mr Matthews, Headteacher:
“This is a great achievement and we at UNICEF are very pleased and proud to be working with you”
The Children’s Commissioner Maggie Atkinson was equally complimentary about the School. She spent as much time as she could with young people and drawing upon her former experience as a teacher, she made sure that they gave her an honest and sincere view of the School.

She said that Portchester was doing a great job for children and “Portchester demonstrated tremendous enthusiasm in everything that was done during my recent visit”
She also said that she visits many schools throughout the UK and knows within minutes of going in to a school whether it really deserves to be called a Rights Respecting School. For her Portchester is the embodiment of an excellent Right Respecting Secondary School.
We are very proud of these accolades. It has been a great year for Portchester!
