Shoebox Challenge

Portchester students and staff rose to the occasion once more when invited to join the "shoebox challenge" organised by the Rotary Club of Great Britain.  This project aims to bring Christmas cheer to deprived children in Romania and Montenegro,  Nearly three hundred boxes were filled with gifts and wrapped in an effort described as "stunning" and "overwhelming" by Harvey Griffiths from the local branch of the Rotary club.

A brilliant effort

Students competed within their Houses to collect the most boxes which were filled with a variety of gifts suggested by a list supplied by the rotary club.  These included small toys and games as well as everyday items such as hairbrushes and pencils, items taken for granted by more fortunate British children.
When Harvey Griffiths came to collect the boxes he was moved to see the effort that had been made and said that he "had never seen anything like it."  Once more Portchester students and staff showed that they have big hearts.
